How It All Started
Bill Feland, president and owner of Preferred Roofing Inc., graduated from Southern Nazarene University and spent six years working as a claims adjuster and supervisor while roofing on the side. Through daily interaction with roofing contractors, he recognized the need for an honest contractor who truly understood the industry.
In 1993, he made the leap to go full-time into the roofing business and started Preferred Roofing as a residential and light commercial roofing company. For more than 30 years, he has continued to expand his knowledge of the roofing industry — becoming involved with the National Roofing Contractors Association, the Midwest Roofing Contractors Association, and the Spray Polyurethane Foam Association, as well as participating in leading manufacturer training programs.
Preferred Roofing is also an expert in commercial re-roofing. We install the most technologically advanced roof systems available, specializing in spray polyurethane foam and metal roof coating solutions. We maintain the highest trained and qualified roof applicators in the industry.
Family Owned
A True Family Business
Preferred Roofing is truly a family operation. Bill learned how to roof by working with his dad as a child. Both of his sons grew up on roofs and around the business. He is proud to now have both of them working alongside him.
Tanner, the oldest, started full-time in 2011 after playing college baseball at Johnson County Community College in Kansas City. Dillon, the youngest, joined the team in 2016 after playing baseball and earning a finance degree from Southern Nazarene University. Our commitment to family and integrity guides everything we do.

Bill founded Preferred Roofing in 1993 after six years as a claims adjuster, where he recognized the need for an honest contractor with true roofing expertise. A graduate of Southern Nazarene University, Bill has spent over 30 years deepening his knowledge through the National Roofing Contractors Association, the Midwest Roofing Contractors Association, the Spray Polyurethane Foam Association, and leading manufacturer training programs.
Dillon joined the family business full-time in 2016 after earning a finance degree from Southern Nazarene University, where he also played baseball. His financial background and hands-on roofing experience make him a key driver of the company's growth and operations.
Tanner came on board full-time in 2011 after playing college baseball at Johnson County Community College in Kansas City. Growing up on job sites alongside his father, Tanner brings a deep understanding of roofing systems and a commitment to finding the right solution for every customer.
Nick is a trusted member of the Preferred Roofing sales team, known for his straightforward approach and dedication to helping homeowners and business owners find the best roofing solution for their needs and budget.
